Former Premier League star scores fastest ever MLS goal

Former Premier League star Tim Cahill scored the fastest ever MLS goal last night as the New York Red Bulls defeated Houston Dynamo.

The former Everton midfielder took just seven seconds to open the scoring for his side.

Cahill, who scored 56 goals in 226 games for Everton, raced down the right after the New York Red Bulls kicked off before controlling a long pass from teammate Dax McCarthy on his chest.

The 33-year-old Australia international then blasted the ball into the top corner from just outside the 18-yard box, before running off to do his trademark celebration.

After scoring the fastest goal in MLS history, Cahill said: "I took it on my chest, took a bounce and it ended up in the top corner."

Cahill is now just one goal behind fellow Premier League star and club teammate Thierry Henry, who has bagged 11 goals for New York Red Bulls so far this season.

You can watch the goal - which was brought to our attention by the Metro - above.
