Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur tried to sign him back in 2012.

Aubameyang was repeatedly linked with a move to the Premier League in the 2012-2013 season, after he showed excellent form for his previous side St Etienne. Newcastle and Spurs were amongst the sides linked with the Gabonese international but he eventually chose a move to Borussia Dortmund.

But despite the rumoured interest, Aubameyang has stated that he was never interested in a move to Andre Villas-Boas' side.

Aubameyang told The Sun that he was never happy with how a potential deal was being progressed.

"Tottenham tried to sign me in June 2012. But in the end everything became a bit weird. I didn't really like the way things were done. So, if Spurs ever came back in for me, I'd say no."

Despite these recent comments, Aubameyang was again linked with a move to Spurs this summer, before joining Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund.

And it seems the move to Germany has paid off, with Aubameyang scoring five goals in nine Bundesliga appearances.
