Borussia Dortmund legend Christian Worns believes Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker can replace Mats Hummels at the Westfalenstadion stadium.
Hummels, who has been linked with a move to Premier League giants Manchester United, has starred for the German outfit over a number of years and continues to attract interest from Europe's elite clubs.
And, ahead of Dortmund's clash with the Gunners at the Emirates tonight, Worns has insisted Mertesacker would be good enough to make the grade in the side.
The Gunners star has had a fine season so far for Arsene Wenger's side, as the north London outfit sit at the top of the Premier League and are looking strong in Europe.
And speaking to Goal.com, the ex-Dortmund star said: “All the other good centre-backs have long-term contracts. So, to replace Hummels, you'd have to buy someone in the category of Mertesacker.
"Mertesacker has turned in strong performances for the national team and Arsenal. He is a very good option for Germany's back four, too."
The two clubs will be desperate for victory tonight as they go head-to-head in the group stages this evening.
Both Mertesacker and Hummels are expected to feature at the Emirates.
