Miami Heat star Dwayne Wade has refused to react to Kevin Durant's recent claims that it is time he "passed the torch" on to the next generation.

31-year-old Wade, who was selected by the Florida outfit with the fifth overall pick of the 2003 NBA draft, has been an absolutely pivotal figure for the franchise during his subsequent decade on the East Coast.

Having led the Heat to the title in 2006, Wade - along with fellow 'big three' members LeBron James and Chris Bosh - also helped Erik Spoelstra's men to secure back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013.

Despite his widely-accepted status as one of basketball's elite shooting guards, however, versatile Oklahoma City ace Durant - who himself is a three-time NBA scoring champion and four-time All-Star - recently claimed that it was time for Wade to

Wade, however, evidently outrightly refused to be drawn into a war of words with the 25-year-old.

“I’m not talking about that,” he told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in an interview that was quoted by NBA.com.

This episode is the second issue that has developed between Durant and Wade during the current off-season.

Back in September, Wade hit back at Durant's claims that Houston Rockets guard James Harden deserved a spot in Sports Illustrated's Top 10 of 2014 list.

The keenly-anticipated 2013/14 NBA season tips off next week, with Wade and the Heat getting their title defence underway against Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls on October 29.

Durant and the Thunder - who were comprehensively beaten by the Heat in a five-game Finals series in 2012 - meanwhile, start with a trip to Salt Lake City and the Utah Jazz a day later.
