Liverpool have once again set their sights on highly-rated Turkish midfielder Arda Turan, according to reports.
The Daily Star cite speculation in Italy when claiming that the Reds want to bring the player to the Premier League in the New Year, having pursued the player in the summer.
Indeed, Turan’s representative, Ahmed Bulut, revealed in the summer that both Brendan Rodgers and Arsene Wenger were among the managers eager to bring the 26-year-old to England.
"Arsenal and Liverpool? A destination in the Premier League would be to the liking of the player and I can confirm there are clubs interested, like the two mentioned," he said at the time, according to the paper.
Liverpool were busy in the summer transfer window, with Victor Moses, Tiago Ilori, Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto among the attacking arrivals at Anfield.
None have taken the division by storm this season however, with Daniel Sturridge, Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard the usual suspects on Merseyside.
Turan would provide a creative spark at the heart of the Liverpool side if Rodgers were able to sign the player, but competition for the signature could be fierce.
Arsenal were the other named club when it came to pursuing Turan in the summer, although Wenger did strengthen in the position with another big name.
The Gunners were able to lure Mesut Ozil to the Emirates Stadium from the Spanish capital, with the German international making an instant impact in north London.
Turan could offer Arsenal another option in attack if they tried to sign the former Galatasaray starlet, although he won't come cheap to any interested party.
The attacking midfielder signed a new contract at the Vicente Calderon Stadium earlier this season, with Turkish Football claiming that his buyout clause rose to €40m when he put pen to paper on that contract.
