Chelsea and Manchester City look set to offer pre-contract offers to PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi amid reports from the Daily Express that contract talks may stumble over a new deal in France.
Matuidi's current deal expires in the summer of 2014, and the Premier League clubs are desperate to try and agree some informal terms before his deal ends. According to French magazine L'Equipe, both City and Chelsea are willing to enter informal talks as soon as January,
The former Saint Etienne man has been offered a new four-year contract by PSG, but negotiations over a salary are on-going.
And with Matuidi fast becoming one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, both Manchester City and Chelsea would be keen on adding the 26-year-old to their ranks. If a new contract is not agreed, PSG would either have to sell the midfielder on-the-cheap in January or risk losing the French international for nothing in the summer.
Matuidi has been in fine form already this season, and both Manuel Pellegrini and Jose Mourinho would jump at the chance to sign Matuidi in a cut-price deal in January.
Should Matuidi arrive in England, he would bring international experience, and both Ligue 1 and League cup titles.
