Mickey Thomas says Wayne Rooney is the only player currently performing for Manchester United so far this season.

Manchester United managed to hold on to their star striker in the summer following strong interest from Chelsea and they will be glad they did.

The England international has been in fine form so far this season for club and country and was inspirational last night as United beat Real Sociedad 1-0 at Old Trafford.

Rooney struggled to find his best form for the Premier League champions last season as injuries hampered his development but Thomas believes he is finally getting back to his best.

He told talkSPORT: “Without doubt he’s been Man United’s best player this season.

“He’s a different player this year, there was lots of speculation that he was going to go this summer but he’s now the one player who is producing the goods for David Moyes.

Manchester United have had a poor start to the season thus far and currently sit eighth in the league eight points behind Arsenal.

Thomas said that although you could criticise the contributions of many of the player, Rooney is not one of them.

He continued: "You can question other people’s performances but Rooney has been the star man for Manchester United.

"His work ethic is excellent and it’s evident that he’s really enjoying his football.”
