Cristiano Ronaldo became the third highest goalscorer in Champions League history after his brace handed Real Madrid a 2-1 victory over Juventus at the Santiago Bernabeu last night.

The Portuguese forward maintained the Spanish giants' perfect start to their 2013/14 European campaign, and in doing so powered Carlo Ancelotti's side towards the knockout stages.

Ronaldo's first came with just four minutes on the clock, when he successfully rounded Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, and expertly converted from the tightest of angles, while his second came from the penalty spot, after Giorgio Chiellini fouled Sergio Ramos in the box.

Antonio Conte's side had earlier drawn level through former Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente, but they were let down by the callous Chiellini, who was later sent off, early in the second-half, after wiping out Ronaldo as he flew down the right wing.

The 28-year-old's competition tally now stands at seven for the season, with an astonishing 28 goals from his last 22 European games, also surpassing Ruud van Nistelrooy to move into third place on the all-time list of goalscorers with 57 Champions League goals.
