Wayne Rooney: 'I never asked to join Chelsea'
Rooney has claimed Sir Alex Ferguson has proved him right by admitting he didn't request a move away this summer
Wayne Rooney has called on retired Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's autobiography to show that he never requested a transfer request this summer.
Rooney was repeatedly linked with a move to Premier League rivals Chelsea this summer, amid media reports that Rooney had repeatedly asked for a transfer.
But this has been proved not to be the case, after Sir Alex Ferguson stated in his recently released autobiography that Rooney did not in fact submit a transfer request.
Following his excellent performance in United's 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad, Rooney spoke of his relief that the transfer request scenario had been concluded.
"He's (Sir Alex Ferguson) got his own opinion and I've said nothing about it. But thankfully he came back and corrected the story that I put a transfer request in and proved I haven't.
"I'm thankful to him, he's corrected that. No it hasn't reignited a feud. I haven't seen him since he retired," Rooney told reporters following the game.
Rooney also spoke of his delight at playing well under former manager David Moyes.
"I'm happy under the new manager, I'm working to get results under David Moyes, and his coaching staff, and that;s the main thing for me.
"The other stuff doesn't concern me. I won;t respond to it at all. I am just happy playing my football and that's the past. I'm looking at the future now. A new coach has come in and it's given me a new lease of life," he added.
