Manchester United and Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit of in-demand youngster Kurt Zouma after he ruled out a switch to Lyon.
The St. Etienne centre-back is considered one of the hottest young prospects in Europe and has attracted interest from a host of big clubs on the continent, including the Ligue 1 club.
Both Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with the 18-year-old in recent months.
Despite the fact Zouma was born in Lyon he has ruled out moving to St. Etienne’s domestic rivals because of the pain it would cause the club’s fans.
He told Vert Foot: "I could not play for that team, even if they offered me £15m a year. If I went to Lyon I feel I would be betraying Saint-Etienne and its fans."
According to TalkSPORT, Manchester United and Liverpool continue to monitor Zouma’s situation.
The Red Devils may well consider swooping for a new centre-back in January or the summer with both Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand coming towards the end of their Old Trafford careers.
Liverpool meanwhile invested in a host of new defenders before the start of the current campaign, but are reportedly considering letting Martin Skrtel leave while Anfield favourite Daniel Agger is said to still be attracting interest from Barcelona.
