Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has revealed he could have been lining up for the opposition ahead of his side's clash against Chelsea tomorrow.
The Brazilian completed a big-money move to the Etihad Stadium from Shakhtar Donetsk during the summer transfer window.
According to Fernandinho, Chelsea attempted to sign him from Shakhtar, who did not inform the 28-year-old of their interest before he went on to join Manchester City.
"It is a complicated story," he said.
"There was contact [from Chelsea] before Manchester City came in for me but nobody told me about this in Shakhtar.
"I don't know what happened between Shakhtar and Chelsea but I'm very happy. I have no regrets.
"Manchester City's results show this. We try to play good football and in the last few games we have played good football and got good results."
Chelsea take on Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday as the two Premier League heavyweights go head to head.
Both are tipped to challenge for the title this season but Fernandinho insists that Sunday's game isn't about showing Chelsea what they missed out on, but securing all three points for his new side.
"It is not a case of showing my best against Chelsea, it is about showing my best against all the teams.
"We try to play good football to win all our games, that is no different whether it is against Chelsea or anyone else."
