FC Schalke host Borussia Dortmund later today at the Veltins Arena, possibly the biggest rivalry in the Bundesliga, so let's take a look at how significant the game is.

Schalke are eight points behind Dortmund already in the Bundesliga, but their side does not lack quality.

Schalke's squad possess fine talent such as Kevin Prince Boateng, Klas Jaan Huntelaar and Julian Draxler. However Huntelaar has been out injured but summer signing Adam Szalai has been in sublime form during his absence. Schalke do miss Huntelaar but their start has been dissapointing nevertheless

The squad is under achieving in the Bundesliga but are sure to find their feet soon.

Schalke at the start of the season were outside title contenders, although it is incredibly improbable beating Dortmund would fill Schalke with confidence and may be put them back in the running.

The impossible job for both teams, would be beating Bayern Munich to the title. Munich are top of the Bundesliga on 23 points and the more games Munich play the more they are growing.

Nonetheless Dortmund are giving it their best shot. Dortmund are only one point behind Munich and will be ready to pounce if Munich do ever slip up.

Dortmund just like Munich have had an admirable start, dropping points in only two games. Dortmund's Marco Reus has been Dortmund's star performer so far this season Reus has scored five Bundesliga goals but has controlled many of their games and has been instrumental in the majority of Dortmund's victory's.

The last two games between these great rivals ended in Schalke wins. Both games Schalke won 2-1. But what would be the case if this happened today?

Well Schalke would skip to 17 points in the Bundesliga leaving them five behind Dortmund and six behind the leaders Munich. Schalke would finally kick start their season and step it up a gear.

Whereas if Dortmund emerge victorious they will make sure they stay as close to the European Champions as possible. Dortmund would also leave their rivals miles behind them as they continue to challenge for the title.

Dortmund are favourites today but with previous games ending in Schalke victory, the hosts are not exactly underdogs.
