During his time at Tottenham, Huddlestone had several injuries and therefore struggled to make a consistent impact on the pitch.

However, after a £5m move to Steve Bruce’s Hull in the summer, the player has proven that he is very capable and has appeared eight times for the Tigers so far.

Quoted on Sky Sports, the 26-year-old said, “Steve Bruce told me what he wanted from me and that I would be one of the focal points in the team. That was the main reason I signed. That was a confidence boost really and I want to repay the faith that the chairman and manager have shown in me.”

Indeed, Bruce certainly showed faith to invest £5m of the club’s money in Huddlestone, given his poor injury record. Yet so far, the gamble seems to have paid off.

“He (Bruce) told me he wanted the team to play football," said Huddlestone, "he didn't want us to lump it like some promoted teams do. As he said, if he was going to do that, it would be pointless signing me.

"He wanted all the play to come through midfield, which will benefit me personally and hopefully if I play well the team will play well."

Huddlestone has been joined at Hull by his former Spurs teammate Jake Livermore, although unlike Huddlestone, the youngster’s move is not a permanent one. Having started seven of eight league games, Livermore has proven to be another astute signing.
