Sebastian Vettel's domination continued with pole position for Sunday's Indian Grand Prix.
The German blitzed the field in a tactical top ten shootout as several teams opted away from using the fragile soft tyres.
With an extra set of the faster tyres available Vettel set a 1:24.119 giving him a huge three-quarters of a second advantage over Nico Rosberg , who will line-up alongside him on the front row. Lewis Hamilton was third as the Mercedes also opted to use the softer rubber.
Mark Webber was the fastest driver on the more durable medium compound in fourth ahead of Felipe Massa, Kimi Raikkonen and Nico Hulkenberg who look to take advantage of their better tyre conservation on the soft tyres tomorrow.
Fernando Alonso took eighth on the medium tyres ahead of the two McLaren's as Sergio Perez beat team-mate Jenson Button.
In Q2 little action of note on the track however both Force India's missed out on the top ten for their home race, Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil12th and 13th respectively.
Daniel Ricciardo is well placed in 11th with his team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne in 14th, Valtteri Bottas was 15th ahead of Esteban Gutierrz who couldn't make Q3 for the third straight race.
A major surprise came in the first session as Lotus misjudged the tyre situation keeping Romain Grosjean on medium tyres as the teams behind switched to the quicker soft tyres, the Frenchman also encountered traffic on his lap and as a result he was only 17th and
knocked out in the first part of qualifying.
Pastor Maldonado joined him in the knock-out zone for Williams ahead of the two slower teams, Jules Bianchi again the fastest for Marussia ahead of Giedo van der Garde and Charles Pic in the Caterham's, Max Chilton will bring up the field.
Back at the front however and it's all about tyres, Vettel leads from pole and looks certain to claim the championship with Alonso down in eighth, as to whether he'll win the race, well we will have to see just how far those soft tyres can go tomorrow.
