Everton have been linked with a January move for Chelsea defender Ryan Bertrand, reports the Sunday Express.

The 24-year-old full-back is being lined up to replace Manchester United-bound Leighton Baines, as Roberto Martinez steps up his search for a successor for the England international.

Bertrand has seen limited first-team action at Stamford Bridge this season, with Blues boss Jose Mourinho sticking with the experienced Ashley Cole on the left side of defence.

Cole picked up a rib injury in the 3-1 victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road earlier this month - which consequently ruled him out of England's final two World Cup qualifiers at Wembley - so Bertrand returned to the Chelsea line-up for last weekend's home win over Cardiff City.

However, Everton will attempt to lure the player from west London, and hope that the offer of regular football will convince him to quit Chelsea and continue his career on Merseyside.

If Bertrand does decide to move to Goodison Park, he'll be reunited with Romelu Lukaku, who left Chelsea to join Everton on a season-long loan deal in the summer.
