Barcelona gained first bragging rights last night, with the Catalans beating rivals Real Madrid 2-1 to open up a four point lead at the top of the table.

It was thought that both Bale and Neymar would take centre stage in the game, however for Bale it wasn't to be. Neymar on the other hand was fantastic, and opened the scoring with ease.

The Brazillian starlet netted with a low right-foot finish to notch the first goal of the game on the 19th minute, however the action didn't really live up to expectation.

Lionel Messi nearly added a second soon after although fired wide and in truth Real Madrid were overall very sloppy in the first half.

And Madrid's lacklustre play meant that their first notable chance did not come until the 44th minute, with German midfielder Sami Khedira having a shot saved by keeper Victor Valdes.

Valdes saved his side again later on, Andres Iniesta lost possession with Luka Modric then being able to carve out an opening for Ronaldo, although his shot was saved by Valdes.

Benzema hit the bar on the 72nd minute, with Real looking to get back into the game and Ronaldo had a penalty appeal waved away just minutes later to add to Madrid's misery.

Things then hit a new time low for Los Blancos, as a moment of genius from Barcelona winger Alexis Sanchez put Barcelona 2-1 up. A sublime chip from the Chilean international on the 78th minute made it look like a win was in the bag for Barcelona.

The three points were loosely threatened late on, with Real Madrid's Jese Rodriguez finding a late consolation after a perfect pass from Cristiano Ronaldo.

But it wasn't enough to spoil Barcelona's victory, with it being the Catalan's first victory over Real Madrid in the last four attempts.

The win puts Barcelona four points clear of Atletico Madrid, although Atletico has a game in hand.
