Manchester United failed with a £6million bid for Galatasaray midfielder - and reported Chelsea target - Wesley Sneijder during the summer, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Holland international has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months, but so far the Turkish giants have knocked back any enquiry that they've received.

Red Devils boss David Moyes attempted to bring Sneijder to Old Trafford before the start of the 2013/14 campaign, but was unsuccessful in his pursuit of the 29-year-old playmaker.

“Sneijder received an indirect offer from Manchester United, but it was not accepted,” confirmed Galatasaray's sporting director Bulent Tulun.

Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the former Inter Milan star, but that transfer rumour likely stems from the fact that Sneijder's former manager Jose Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge during the summer.

There have been suggestions that Manchester United will renew their attempts to sign Sneijder in January, with Moyes ready to double the offer made to Galatasaray just a couple of months ago.
