Newcastle United have entered the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur target Yann Sommer, according to the Daily Star.
The FC Basel goalkeeper is attracting admiring glances from the Premier League, and with a little over 18 months remaining on his contract will be available for around £3.5million in January.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has had the Switzerland international watched on a number of occasions, and believes he will provide Hugo Lloris with competition for the number one spot at White Hart Lane.
With Brad Friedel likely to retire at the end of the season, there is an opening for another goalkeeper in north London, and Sommer would be ideal.
However, Tottenham face competition for the 24-year-old's services, with Magpies manager Alan Pardew also monitoring the highly-rated Swiss star's situation, as he too looks to bring in reinforcements at St James' Park at the turn of the year.
With Tim Krul attracting interest from a host of top European clubs, Newcastle are already on the lookout for the Dutchman's potential successor, who also comes in the form of Sommer.
