Liverpool mounted their best title challenge in the Premier League in the 2008/2009 season.

When Liverpool beat closest rivals Manchester United 4-1 at Old Trafford, Reds fans could be forgiven for thinking this was their year.

They'd also taken care of United at home earlier in the season, and the midfield trio of Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano were on fire.

An in-form Fernando Torres was bagging the goals and it seemed Liverpool's long, long wait for another league title was over.

However, not for the first time, a mis-timed rant cost a side the title.

Benitez went on an extraordinarily bizarre tangent about Sir Alex Ferguson, famously remembered for the consistent use of the word 'fact'.

Liverpool lost momentum, eventually finishing four points off top-spot and wondering where it went wrong.
