Jose Mourinho believes an unfair schedule has gifted Arsenal the upper hand in Tuesday's Capital One Cup clash.

Chelsea face Arsene Wenger's side at the Emirates stadium on Tuesday night in the fourth round of the competition.

The tie comes just 48 hours after the Premier League title clash between Chelsea and Manchester City at Stamford Bridge and Mourinho believes the heavy schedule means Arsenal have the advantage.

He did, however, back down from earlier claims that his team for Tuesday's game would be made up of mostly youth players.

"It's not the plan [to field youngsters]. We have to respect also our fans. We discussed that in the club. [But] we have to protect our players," Mourinho told reporters.

"We are going to try to do our job and we will do our job the best we can."

Although committing to fielding the strongest team available, Mourinho says that the chances of a good contest against the Gunners have been ruined by the scheduling.

Not only this but he has also hinted that by organising the game for Tuesday, the schedulers have helped Arsenal in their hunt for a trophy.

"We are going to give the game that the people that put the game on Tuesday want," he said.

"If they want a big game, we cannot give the big game. If they want the players that were playing [on Sunday], we cannot give them that.

"If they want Arsenal to win a trophy, that's a help, because if they want a big game between two big teams in London, they should put the game on Wednesday and not on Tuesday."

Chelsea face Arsenal in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night at 19:45.
