The heavy handed Middleweight Adam Etches made light work of his Brazilian opponent with a first round knock out in his home town of Sheffield.

The 22-year-old, promoted by Ricky Hatton, retained his IBF youth title in stunning style forcing Alexandre Mendes' corner to throw in the towel.

The most talked about point of the fight occurred when Etches rocked back Mendes onto the ropes with two well executed right hands, and instead of finishing his opponent, turned his back and walked away, in assumption that the referee had intervened to call off the fight.

The life line given to Mendes fuelled him to bring forth an assault of his own, however the life line was short lived as to the frustration of Mendes, his corner threw in the towel.

Etches told SkySports: "I'm still young and I'm only learning. I should've got him out there and then. I thought the ref was going to stop it, but he didn't. I won't do that next time."

His promoter Ricky Hatton mentioned undefeated prospect Chris Eubank Jr as a possible future opponent for Etches.
