The new Premier League season was always going to be an exciting one, and this years hasn't disappointed - and we're only nine games in.

I would like to just spend this article talking about someone who hasn't really had a lot of attention so far this season, with David Moyes and Jose Mourinho hogging most of the headlines.

My focus of attention is Manuel Pellegrini, the current Manchester City manager who took over the club this summer.

I believe he has probably come into the club, from his own perspective, at a very good time! With everybody focused on how well Moyes is doing at their rivals, a lot of attention is being diverted away from the former Malaga boss.

A lot has been made of United's poor and slow start to the league campaign and Moyes supposedly being the reason for this. Let's see how well the man at City is doing in comparison - some of the statistics may surprise you.

Manchester City collected a total of 21 points by this stage last season under Mancini - they have 16 so far in the current campaign. This places them seventh in the Premier League - only two points ahead of rivals Manchester United, and arguably the derby is the difference between the two sides.

City were unbeaten in their opening 15 games, until they lost 3-2 at home to Manchester United in December 2012, but they have already lost 3 games so far this campaign - the same as Manchester United. City have lost to Cardiff City, Aston Villa & Chelsea and Manchester United have been defeated by Liverpool, Manchester City & West Bromwich Albion.

If you look at the two comparisons, although a lot more has been made by Moyes' results, Pellegrini has not had such a great start either. The 4-1 victory over their rivals has placed him in a better position and has avoided any pressure being placed on his shoulders so far, but the defeat at Stamford Bridge will possibly put him in the spotlight now.

He has been very fortunate coming into the hot seat at the Etihad Stadium this season, as the huge news that has been going on at the red half of Manchester has eased a lot of pressure on his behalf.

His arrival isn't as massive as Moyes' at United and even Mourinho's at Chelsea - the return of the special one. Should Sir Alex Ferguson still be at Manchester United, people would be looking to see if City would improve from last season as opposed to how much Moyes could fail at Manchester United.

And, these statistics suggest that, perhaps they haven't at all.
