The Golden Boot is a fiercely fought competition every season, with the Premier League's finest all hoping they can be the season's top goalscorer.

This season has been pretty full-on and already there are contenders for the Golden Boot proving why they should win it.

Here are GMS Academy member Ollie Gentle's picks for the Top Five contenders:

5) Romelu Lukaku -

Lukaku is currently at Everton, on loan from Chelsea. Looking at his form so far this season Chelsea may have made the wrong decision to send him out. The Belgian has five goals so far - as many as Robin Van Persie.

Lukaku is turning into a prolific goalscorer, improving game by game, and it would be no surprise if we see him parading a trophy at the end of the season.

4) Christian Benteke -

Benteke proved last season why he is able to win the Golden Boot, and he is replicating the form already this season. He already has scored four goals.

The Belgian got a total of 19 goals last season, just seven short of Van Persie who got a total of 26 goals and won the award. I believe that Benteke could easily go further this season and win the award, especially if Van Persie picks up an injury.

3) Aaron Ramsey -

Ramsey has thoroughly impressed so far this season, with the Welshman already scoring five goals. This may be luck, however he should not be underestimated.

He may be overpowered by strikers at the end of the season, especially as his position does not generally involve scoring goals. However with his good run showing no signs of coming to an end, his inclusion is reasoned.

2) Luis Suarez -

Suarez started the season carrying on his five-match ban for his antics last season. But already the controversial striker has scored six goals, and is the league's third top goalscorer.

If the Uruguayan can stay out of the spotlight and manage to play a full season without being banned again, not only will it be a bonus for Liverpool, with the SAS partnership blooming,  I thoroughly believe that he could be the winner of the Golden Boot come the end of the season.

1) Robin Van Persie

Well, why shouldn't he be on here? It is no surprise. Although Van Persie has not lived up to last season's form so far, he is a goalscoring pro and scores more often than not.

Van Persie has five goals so far this season, with him getting a total of 26 last season when he won the award. Although he isn't on top form so far this season, you would expect him to get many more goals this season.
