Javier Hernandez, who scored the late winner in Manchester United's 3-2 win against Stoke City has lauded his teammate and friend David de Gea and believes he was the true hero in the game because of the vital saves he made to keep the Premier League champions in the game.

"He was wonderful," Hernandez told the club's official website. "Like I always say, we are a team and there are no heroes, but in some games there are players who make the difference and David was the one on Saturday.

"He's a wonderful goalkeeper, for me he's probably the best one in the world.

"People don't like to say that but, for me, he probably is. David and Edwin van der Sar are two of the best goalkeepers I have trained with - wonderful. Same level, same style and David is improving day by day."

United boss David Moyes picked out De Gea for praise in the dressing room - and Hernandez added: "That's what the gaffer said to us and we agreed that it was because of him we got the three points.

"He made two or three saves after the goals and he was just fantastic."

Hernandez's words could not have been more true as De Gea had to dig deep to produce a couple of game-changing saves against a strong Stoke side which preyed on a disorganised and weak defence.

Perhaps calling him the best in the world is going a tad bit too far. In terms of technical ability De Gea is definitely in the top bracket of goalkeepers in the world; however, he still lacks command of his area that much more experienced 'keepers possess.

This ability will no doubt develop over time and perhaps at a later point in time, he will truly be the world's best goalkeeper.
