Tampa Bay Buccaneers have placed wide receiver Mike Williams on injured reserve, just over one week after the 26-year-old tore his hamstring during the Week Four loss to the Arizona Cardinals, reports

Williams - a fourth-round draft selection for Tampa Bay in 2010 - signed a $40.25million six-year contract extension during the offseason, and the news will bring a disappointing end to the first leg of his new deal at the Raymond James Stadium.

Bucs coach Greg Schiano took the decision to place Williams on injured reserve on Monday morning, meaning he finishes 2013 with 22 catches for 216 yards and two touchdowns, taking his overall total to 2,947 receiving yards and 25 touchdown catches in 54 career games with Tampa Bay.

He had a career-high 996 receiving yards and nine touchdowns last season, which is what prompted the Florida-based franchise to offer the player a lucrative new contract that will keep him in Tampa until 2019.
