Juan Mata was outstanding for Chelsea last season, however he’s been left standing out in the cold so far this campaign, which is likely to attract a January bid from PSG - according to the Daily Telegraph.
The World Cup winner has been restricted to minimal game time since Jose Mourinho arrived back at Stamford Bridge for a second spell in charge.
It has come as a surprise to Chelsea fans after the playmaker was a pivotal figure in last season’s Europa League triumph, which led to a summer of interest from other clubs.
Current French champions, Paris Saint-Germain, look most likely to mount a bid in January and if Mata fails to break into the Chelsea side before Christmas, a move away from west London may tempt the 25-year-old away from Stamford Bridge.
The reasons behind his omission from the starting line-up remain somewhat unanswered; however the work rate of the Chelsea number 10 has been questioned since Mourinho returned.
There is no doubting Mata’s technical ability and class in front of goal, but if the Portuguese boss fails to find a place in his team for the former Valencia midfielder, a number of high profile clubs will be waiting in the wings to snap up the talented playmaker.
And despite Chelsea’s reluctance to let go of Mata, the technically gifted Spaniard is unlikely to be happy watching from the sidelines with PSG preparing to pounce.
