Monaco forward Radamel Falcao has revealed how happy he is to be nominated for the prestigious Ballon d'Or award.

The Colombian striker will go head to head with 23 of the world's top players including Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Robin van Persie in contention for the honour.

"I am very happy to be here for the second time consecutively on the list of 23 finalists for the Ballon d'Or," said Falcao.

"I thank God to be present on this list, with 23 excellent footballers.

"(It brings) great pride for me, Monaco and also for my country."

The 27-year-old earned his place amongst the elite in world football with 28 goals in La Liga last season for Atletico Madrid before his extortionate £50m transfer to Monaco in the summer.

This season he has again hit the ground running with eight goals in Ligue 1 for his new club, as he looks to spearhead the Monaco revolution.

He is one of four players in the running from the French division with Paris Saint-Germain stars Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva among the contenders.
