Arsenal are planning to launch a fresh bid for Liverpool star Luis Suarez in January, according to reports.
26-year-old Suarez, who has been in excellent form of late since returning from a 10-match ban incurred after he appeared to bite Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during a Premier League clash back in April, was widely expected to leave Liverpool during the summer in pursuit of regular Champions League football.
Real Madrid and Arsene Wenger's Premier League leaders were generally considered the frontrunners for the controversial Uruguayan's signature, but a move ultimately never materialised as the La Liga giants focused on completing their world-record move for Gareth Bale and the Gunners were seemingly priced out of a switch after a misunderstanding involving a rather ambiguous clause in the player's contract.
However, according to the Daily Star, the two are set to fight it out to capture the talented maverick once again when the transfer window re-opens for business in the new year.
Reports suggest that Arsenal are plotting another move while Carlo Ancelotti's Real are looking to beat their rivals with an audacious bid of approximately £20 million in a deal that could also involve French striker Karim Benzema - another supposed Wenger striker target.
Given that Real reportedly value the misfiring former Lyon frontman at £20 million also, reports claim that would take the overall value of such an offer up to £40 million in total.
Whether Liverpool will be willing to let Suarez leave, however, surely must remain in doubt. Although the player made it abundantly clear he was eager to seek a new challenge merely months ago, he has since formed a truly formidable partnership with England international Daniel Sturridge as Brendan Rodgers' men have looked to assert themselves as genuine title contenders.
