Chris Froome has been named as the winner of the prestigious Velo d'Or 2013 award that is awarded annually to the best rider of the last 12 months.

Froome, 28, has enjoyed a spectacular year, winning the Tour de France, Criterium du Dauphine and Tour de Romandie.

With the award, the Kenyan-born Brit has fully emulated his compatriot Sir Bradley Wiggins, who won both the Velo d'Or and the Tour de France last year.

Columbian Nairo Quintana, who was the runner-up at the Tour and also took the White and Polka Dot jerseys, has been voted as best young prospect.

The Velo'Or Francais, naming the best French rider, has been won by Christophe Riblon.

The winners are voted for by cycling journalists and is awarded by the French magazine 'Velo'.
