Former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Corrigan has suggested that Joe Hart may be under pressure from current number two Costel Pantilimon.

Hart was involved in a mix up with centre-back Matija Nastasic on Sunday which led to Chelsea's late winner and Corrigan believes that Pantilimon could replace the England number one at the Ethihad Stadium.

"There's a League Cup game coming up and I think Pantilimon will play," Corrigan told BBC Radio 5 live.

Manchester City take on Newcastle United in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup this evening and the tall Romanian is likely to start - as he did in the previous round - though he is yet to start in the Premier League for City.

"I think the manager will make an assessment if he [Pantilimon] plays well against a Premier League side.

"Joe has to accept whatever happens and go back and work. He's got the quality. He's got to accept all the flack, it's difficult because he's still a young man. He knows he's made a mistake," Corrigan said.

But it is not just the error at Stamford Bridge which has City manager Manuel Pellegrini contemplating his choice between the sticks.

Hart, 26, has made notable errors in games involving Bayern Munich, Cardiff City and Aston Villa for his club this season along with a mistake in the game between England and Scotland at Wembley.

Corrigan, 64, feels the change in goalkeeper coach could have contributed to Hart's growing frequency of mistakes.

"He had an Italian for three or four years. He now has a Spanish goalkeeping coach, and their management of goalkeeping isn't the same as a British goalkeeping coach.

"He has the England goalkeeping coach Dave Watson who I think is a superb goalkeeping coach and he only meets up with Dave every international gathering. It's got to be difficult for him," he added.
