Tottenham could team up with a London-based NFL franchise for a new multi-use stadium with a capacity of 65,000 - following the scrapping of their original designs, according to the Daily Mail.

Spurs supposedly got rid of the original designs for a £400million stadium with a 56,000-seat capacity, because they wanted to reconsider some of the interior features.

They've appointed Populous - who designed the Olympic and Emirates stadiums, to design a bigger ground, to allow an easy switch between football and NFL games.

Sources close to the build say that Spurs want to start from scratch with stadium designs, for the new ground to be built around a combination of the two sports.

These plans are said to involve a sliding pitch to protect the playing surface during NFL matches. Although this would come at a huge cost, Spurs bosses are confident that NFL games can be lured from Wembley, or even attract a London NFL franchise.

Tottenham's reasons behind the shared stadium are clear if you look at the financial benefits the sport has brought to Wembley stadium - the ground makes an estimated profit of at least £500,000 a game, with profits rising to £1million per match.

If Spurs were able to bring NFL to their new stadium, and established a link with a permanent NFL tenant, they could take a split of the ticket receipts as well as a hosting cost - potentially earning them millions every game.
