Manchester United have been tracking Bosnian international and exciting young midfielder Miralem Pjanic of Roma and are expected to make a bid of £25 million in the January transfer window, according to The Telegraph.

Pjanic has been key to Roma's surge to the top of the Serie A, helping his club to nine straight wins so far.

Manchester United scouts have apparently been watching the young starlet on a regular basis have been giving rave reviews about him back to manager David Moyes - who happens to be in the market for a creative midfielder.

United's over reliance on Michael Carrick to supply quality balls from a deeper role has always proven the right direction and with their more creative players playing towards the final third of the field in the forms of Shinji Kagawa, Wayne Rooney and most recently Adnan Januzaj - the likes of Tom Cleverley and Anderson are simply not cutting it in the creative midfield department.

The Manchester club may have to pay more than Pjanic's £25m valuation as they are half way though an exceptional start to the season.

The 23 year-old has been at the heart of a three-man midfield alongside another of Manchester United's former targets, Daniele De Rossi and Kevin Strootman.

This combination provides a perfect balance of creativity, enforcement and leadership stemming from the middle of the park - which AS Roma would not want to break up.

Attributed as the creative spark to what has been dubbed one of the best Roma sides for years under new manager Rudi Garcia, he will not be in the business of selling off one his hottest prospects.

Reports in Italy have suggested the Rome based club will be offering their star play maker a new five year deal, however any offer would easily be outmatched by the financial muscle of United given the financial limitations faced by the Italian club.

This issue of financial capability has been attributed to the decline of Italian clubs in recent years as they fail to retain their best players to clubs in Spain and England.

Roma signed Pjanic for £9m in the summer of 2011. He is also fluent in the English language would be an added incentive for Moyes to get him given there will not be a language barrier should he make the transition to England.

Moyes is still interested in Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrea and might be rekindling his interest in the central midfielder following his failure to land him over the summer transfer window.

There are no guarantees that these players will adapt well to the Premier League and serve as a catalyst for United's problems, but perhaps addressing the issue is the first step and hopefully United gets it right irregardless of which player they eventually land.
