Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp has signed a contract extension which takes him up to 2018.
The much sought after coach had turned down approaches from Premier League clubs such as Manchester City and Chelsea before they emplouyed Manuel Pellegrini and Jose Mourinho respectively.
Klopp has been an enigmatic and quite a revolutionary figure within the Bundesliga and has a fresh approach to football management.
His record speaks for itself, winning the Bundesliga title in 2010-2011 and also repeating this success again the following season.
Dortmund will see this as a major victory for the future of the club with a move from another Premier league club Arsenal amongst others being mooted next summer.
Klopp, who only signed a contract over year ago taking him up to 2016, felt it was right to reaffirm his commitment to Dortmund and set the record straight amongst several rumours.
"We're all still just a little bit in love with this club and the way in which things are progressing here," he said.
The clubs general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke could not hide his excitement at the news either.
"Since you should never separate that which belongs together, we've extended the contract of our head coach and his team once again"
Dortmund who are currently only one point behind Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga have all to play for this season domestically and in Europe following their 2-1 victory at The Emirates against Arsenal last Tuesday.
The German is known for his eccentricity speaking just a few weeks ago he told reporters:
“I don’t know. In this moment I don’t think of anything else. If I went to many clubs now and said: ‘Hello – bring me offers’, maybe some would start running. But I’m not interested because, for me, this is the most interesting football project in the world. In three or four years, if someone wants me, we can speak. But, for now, this is the best place for me.”
It is fair to say he is very settled at Dortmund and he is there for the long haul.
