Arsenal & Spurs face Everton fight for M’Vila

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur face competition from Premier League rivals Everton in the race to sign Yann M’Vila, according to reports.

The Daily Express cite speculation in Russia when claiming that the Toffees are ready to make a move for the player in January, with agent Werner Baader confirming that there is interest in his client.

"Indeed, many European clubs are interested in Yann, including English clubs. This is normal for a player of such a high level,” he said, according to Izvestia.

"At the moment M'Vila is under contract with Rubin, and the club are satisfied. Let's see what happens in the winter [transfer window]."

The Express claims Everton boss Roberto Martinez wants M’Vila to replace Gareth Barry at Goodison Park, with the England midfielder currently on loan from Manchester City.

His short-term spell with the Toffees ends at the conclusion of the current season, and 23-year-old M’Vila could partner James McCarthy at the heart of the team on Merseyside.

They may face competition from two previously interested parties however, with the paper claiming both the Gunners and Spurs could rekindle their interest in a player who is banned from his national team until June 2014.

Arsenal have made a great start to the current Premier League season, but potentially lack depth in the defensive midfield position at the Emirates Stadium.

Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta are the two regular choices for manager Arsene Wenger, with Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey also capable of playing in the position for the Gunners.

None have the touch-tackling ability of M'Vila however, and he would certainly add something different to the Arsenal side in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Tottenham Hotspur, meanwhile, have a number of players better equipped to play in the same position at White Hart Lane.

Paulinho and Etienne Capoue were drafted in by manager Andre Villas-Boas in the summer transfer window, joining Sandro and Moussa Dembele at the heart of the Spurs side.

M'Vila's arrival would likely mean the end for one of the aforementioned four at Tottenham Hotspur, although it remains a long way off at this stage.

If the player does become available in January, then a transfer battle will be expected to ensue.
