Arsenal are lining-up a bid for AC Milan starlet M’Baye Niang, according to reports.

The Daily Express cite speculation across Europe when claiming that Gunners chief Arsene Wenger is set to offer £6million for the talented Frenchman, who was linked with a move to north London two-years ago.

Chelsea were also linked with a move for the player earlier in the year, the paper claims, whilst strike-partner Mario Balotelli has also been on the Blues radar in more recent times.

The maverick Italian international has limited Niang's first team opportunities at the San Siro, opening the door to the 18-year-old's potential Serie 'A' exit.

Keisuke Honda's arrival and Stephan El Shaarway's return from injury could also play their part, offering Arsenal a chance to take advantage in the transfer window.

The Gunners are relatively light in attack, with Olivier Giroud and Nicklas Bendtner the only senior options available to Wenger at the Emirates Stadium.

Niang is regarded as a star of the future in Europe, and his arrival at Arsenal would be a major transfer coup for this season's Premier League title chasers.

Whether the interest of Arsenal would spark other clubs into action remains to be seen, and it's unclear if the Italian giants would be willing to sell the player.

If they are, then it may be hard to rule Chelsea out of the running, given their recent track record of bringing top young players to west London.

Owner Roman Abramovich has overseen a change in philosophy at Stamford Bridge, and Jose Mourinho continued that following his arrival in the summer.

Niang would also offer strong competition to Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto'o and Dember Ba in west London, but there are plenty of hurdles still to get past at this stage.
