LeBron James: I want to be the greatest

.

LeBron James has outlined his ambition to become the greatest player in the history of the NBA, and the Miami Heat superstar believes he is capable of being better than he is right now.

Michael Jordan is still regarded by most as the best there has ever been in the sport, but James is certainly in contention to usurp the Chicago Bulls legend, although may have to wait until his playing days are over.

Most would agree it is an accolade James is capable of achieving and, although he claims not to be concerned what others think, he admits being the undisputed best is a personal ambition of his.

"At the end of the day, it doesn't matter where people rank me all time," James said in an interview with USA TODAY.

"But for me, I have a personal goal to be the greatest."

He added: "When people said I couldn't get better, I continue to strive to get better. If I do that, I can be very high."

Although the new NBA season, which began on Tuesday, may not end with James being heralded as superior to Jordan, the Heat star is expected to add to his personal list of awards in 2014.

In a poll conducted by NBA.com, 69 percent of the league's GMs believed James will follow up his last two MVP awards with a third successive triumph.

The Heat, meanwhile, began the new season with a 107-95 defeat of the Chicago Bulls.
