A team that has left everyone amazed, Southampton could find themselves playing in the big leagues soon.
Currently lying in fifth place (a spot that guarantees a Europa League spot) in the English Premier League table, and with the second-best defensive record in all of Europe, they need just a few more things to make sure they reach a European competition.
1. Depth in their squad.
Perhaps the most crucial factor that Southampton are currently missing, depth will be the difference between qualifying for European competition or missing out.
They have a fantastic starting 11, but when a few injuries or suspensions come around later in the season, they will surely struggle. If they add a few more quality players to their ranks, they will thrive in many aspects.
2. Bringing in star names.
The additions of Dejan Lovren, Victor Wanyama and the already present names of Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana have drawn more attention to Southampton.
Now their next step is to attract top footballers in order to be reckoned football team. With a couple more star-studded names that come with European football experience, they will add quality to their squad and a destination for other top footballers.
3. Sell fringe players.
Lastly, the Saints' board needs to release some fringe players. Age is not helping many of the players in the squad and all they seem to be doing is consuming wages. Those wages can be used on scouting, wages for star players, or bringing in other players.
A strict board and manager will create a team capable of playing European football in the next couple of years. Their playing style is wonderful and defensively they are outstanding, but with these remedies, they'll surely climb up to the high skies.
