The Daily Telegraph has published a report by PeerIndex to establish the 140 most influential tweeters in the United Kingdom in 2013.
Stars of music, television, and sport dominate the list, compiled by analysis from more than 10billion tweets, to provide a snapshot of national affinities.
Scores were not based on how many followers an individual attracted, but on the amount of Twitter traffic they generated, via other people responding to, retweeting or engaging with them.
"As twitter has become more mainstream, the top 140 starts to resemble the contours of popular culture and power, the footballers, politicians and boybands," explained PeerIndex founder, Azeem Azhar.
"However, social media's democratising effects still allow those with challenging, welldefined or interesting views to build influence."
Each member of boyband One Direction is rated as the five most influential tweeters in the UK, with fellow musician Ed Sheeran separating them and Prime Minister David Cameron in seventh place.
Celebrity Arsenal fan Piers Morgan; a former journalist turned TV personality, Caitlin Moran; a feminist author and journalist, and Ricky Gervais; comedian and actor make up the remainder of the top 10.
