Mourinho weighing up two international midfielders

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is keen to add to his midfield in the January transfer window - with two international midfielders under consideration.

The Daily Express reports that Mourinho is weighing up a January approach for Real Madrid star Xabi Alonso - while PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi is also a target.

Alonso returned to the Real Madrid team against Sevilla earlier this week, having spent the past three months on the sidelines with a fractured metatarsal.

He's out of contract at the end of the season, which means Chelsea would be able to offer him a pre-contract deal in January to sign him on a free transfer next summer.

Alternatively, Real Madrid may decide to cash in on the Spain international rather than lose him for free at the end of the season - although recent reports claim the Bernabeu hierarchy is keen for him to agree an extension.

Matuidi is also out of contract at the end of the season, and has so far failed to agree an extension with PSG.

The Parisian club are thought to be locked in negotiations with Matuidi over a new deal, but the two parties are some way off an agreement and Chelsea plan to swoop in January with a pre-contract offer of their own.

The defensive midfielder is one of the best in Europe in his position, and was highly regarded as a youth prospect at his previous club Saint Etienne.
