Ballon d'Or: Forgotten stars XI (1)

Published 1 Comments

With this week's release of the 2013 FIFA Ballon d'Or shortlist, it's that time of year again when the footballing world comes together to celebrate the very best talent from across the globe.

This particular award has been dominated by one man in recent years - Argentina and Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi. The diminutive attacking genius has romped to victory on all three occasions since the award was merged back in 2010.

Despite 26-year-old Messi being the overwhelming favourite to win the prestigious title once again, there are a number of other prominent stars in contention.

With the shortlist only containing 23 names, however, a number of the game's top performers have unfortunately missed the cut.

This week, Catalan newspaper Sport produced a stunning XI of players who had been overlooked for the award this year.

Here, we go through that XI with sheer bewilderment at how some of these stars have not made the cut.

Don't forget to leave your comments below. Do you think any of these players should have been nominated?

Perhaps you feel that some of these stars deserved to be overlooked?
