Football legend reveals plans for all-star 'Galaxy 11'

It's enough to make football fans all over the world salivate; the news that a football legend is putting together a world XI of the current best players on the planet- to compete in a match.

It may sound far-fetched and the stuff that Football Manager folklore is made of, but that's exactly what German talisman Franz Beckenbauer is doing.

In response to the strange glyphs and even stranger men hitting the headlines of the football world of late, Beckenbauer has released a video confirming his plans to unite the world's greatest players under one banner- the 'Galaxy 11'.

Despite continuing to riddle fans with cryptic talk of 'alien invaders' and foreign entities competing for earth in a football match, one thing is abundantly clear: Beckenbauer is planning on recruiting the best footballers around for the same team.

"I'm very serious. The fate of mankind hangs in the balance, and I fear that the winner takes the earth" the 68-year-old said.

"I will lead a team of the world's finest, and I am taking careful and calculated steps to determine and assemble this team... the Galaxy XI."

When asked who might make up the squad of earthly protectors though, the former Germany international was far more reserved.

"I'm still considering all options," Beckenbauer said.

"November 11th, the first player will be announced.

"We have no choice, we have to win."
