The Golden State Warriors had a historic opening night against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday evening as the team recorded their highest-win margin in franchise history.
The Lakers came to the Oracle Arena on fire after a win the previous night against the Clippers. The Lakers bench starred that night but the night after they were no match for the Warriors.
The star of the night was Klay Thompson. He had a career high 38 points coming off 15 of 19 from the field and 5 of 7 from behind the arc. This was truly a great performance from young gun Thompson.
Helping Thompson was David Lee, who dropped 24 points and grabbed eight boards. Coach Mark Jackson decided to give the bench some minutes after realising that the match was already won.
The bench certainly didn't disappoint. Led by Toney Douglas' 13 points, they bench were able to hold the lead and extend it to 31.
The Warriors are looking dangerous. With Andrew Bogut signing a new contract extension, the team chemistry is at an all-time high. If Bogut and Stephen Curry can stay healthy, they could become a legitimate championship contender.
Curry can become an elite player with a little improvement and if David Lee can improve his defence, he could be selected for his third All-Star appearance.
With young talent around them such as Thompson, Kent Bazemore, Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes, the Warriors have a good future as well.
The Warriors also had a great off season after signing versatile small forward Andre Iguodala. As well as Bogut, Iguodala also brings a presence to the Warriors defence that improves their team incredibly.
With so many great pieces, all the Warriors need is a little improvement and they could make a championship puzzle. They have a stellar starting lineup, a great bench and an outstanding coach.
Look out NBA - the Warriors are coming.
