Mesut Özil shocked everyone by joining Arsenal for a record transfer fee - Romario Webster takes a look at his start to life in North London.
Mesut Özil has taken England by storm since completing a £42.5m deal which saw him swap the Bernabeu for the Emirates stadium
In fairness, not the hardest of ties when top met bottom in the clash between Arsenal and Sunderland, however no away game in the Premier League these days is easy.
It took Özil just 11 minutes to grab his first assist in Arsenal colours as he put the ball on a plate for Olivier Giroud as the Frenchman slotted home.
Özil didn't assist or score again, although he made a total of 79 passes, completing 90% of those and creating 3 goalscoring opportunities. Not a bad way to start your career.
I'm having mixed thoughts on his performances in the Champions League if I'm honest.
Mesut Özil played magnificently against Napoli and controlled the game. The whole Arsenal team thrived off an outstanding atmosphere generated by the Emirates crowd especially the midfield which played out of their skins.
Özil opened the scoring with an immaculate finish which he made look easy. He then went on to stroll past a few Napoli defenders and set Giroud up as the Arsenal striker took the chance. However, in the games against Marseille and Dortmund I felt he disappeared a bit.
In the game against Marseille, Arsenal didn't need to rely on him as much. Goals from Walcott and Ramsey secured the three points. However, against Dortmund we needed Özil to show why he is being raved about so much and outshine everyone.
He had a decent game but not to the standards expected. I'm not pinning the blame on Özil for Arsenal's loss, I just feel he should have played the way he played against Napoli by dictating play and creating numerous chances.
Özil's performances in the Premier League have been brilliant as he has shown everyone why he is being dubbed the best 'Number 10' in the Premier League ahead of the likes of: Juan Mata, David Silva, Oscar and Coutinho.
Arguably he is and the stats give him a good vote. In his 6 performances he has scored 2 and assisted 3, which puts him on the same level as David Silva in terms of goal contribution
A highlight of Özil's play has been how he's linked up with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud.
He's taken to English game with ease and the way he strolls past players as been a particular highlight of his play. His first goal against Norwich showed his determination and drive. He sprinted from inside his own half into the opposition box to guide home a header with ease.
Mesut Özil's start to his Arsenal career has been outstanding and I feel he has fulfilled a lot of the expectations that were placed on his shoulders as soon as he joined Arsenal.
I do feel though he can often drift away from games and go missing and I feel he needs to add more consistency to his game to become more complete.
The games against Liverpool, Dortmund and Man United will show us more of Mesut Özil. I'm not knocking Özil for one second I'm just picking points that I feel he could improve on and I believe he will go on to be a great success for Arsenal.
He can be the first of many superstars to join the Gunners as Arsenal finally release the purse strings!
