Manchester United appear as if they are back on the trail of Sami Khedira, with the club having apparently sent a prominent member of staff to watch the Real Madrid midfielder in action.

German international Khedira was heavily linked with a switch to Old Trafford prior to the close of the summer transfer window, but a deal ultimately never came to fruition after the Red Devils reportedly had a bid of £35 million rejected.

Speculation as to Khedira's future has reignited in recent weeks, though, with the player having claimed that he felt as if he was being 'made a scapegoat' by the Spanish press primarily due to his allegiance to former Real boss Jose Mourinho.

Unsurprisingly, the 26-year-old has subsequently been linked with a potential reunion with Mourinho at current club Chelsea.

However, the Blues could be set to face competition from title rivals United, with reports in the Daily Star claiming that coach Phil Neville was dispatched to watch Khedira during Real's emphatic 7-3 triumph over La Liga rivals Sevilla last week.

Another potential United move for Khedira would presumably not come as too much of a surprise for the club's fans, with David Moyes widely expected to play a major role in then transfer market when it re-opens in the new year.

His side have endured a somewhat underwhelming beginning to the new domestic campaign and there are evidently several areas of the squad that require immediate strengthening going forward.
