Last season was Bayern Munich's year.
They cruised to the Bundesliga title and German cup, and won the Champions League in impressive fashion.
In their Champions League victory, they done what no side has done before - embarrass Barcelona.
The German side romped to victory at both the Olympic Stadium and the Nou Camp in the semi-finals, where they completely stunned football fans across the world.
A 4-0 win in the home leg was impressive enough, however, that was followed by a 3-0 thrashing of the then, current Champions League holders, Barcelona in Spain.
And their success was a lot down to Frank Ribery.
The Frenchman has been one of the best players in Europe for the past year, and his side have not lost a league match since April 2011.
This was rewarded by winning Uefa's Best Player in Europe.
However, this was an award Messi's team-mate Andreas Iniesta took home, and was crushed by the Argentinean star in the Ballon d'Or.
Ribery only struck 11 times for Munich last season. Compared to Messi's 60, it makes it difficult for voters to oppose the best player in the world.
Messi's win last year, which he took a massive 40% of the votes, was won with Barcelona having a very poor season by their standards. They didn't win La Liga or the Champions League.
To this, Ribery has not been the only one in the starlight for Bayern. Arjen Robben has arguably been as influential as the French international, as was Bastian Schweinsteger.
Ronaldo, who was the key to guiding Real Madrid to their first league title since 2008 last year still was beaten by Messi.
Although Ribery is a class act, what Messi has done is comparable to no one. 7-4 looks a massive price for the Argentinian star to cruise to the title again.
