It's a great sign that you are one of the best footballers in the world- if not the best- when people are concerned that you go four games without a goal- luckily for Lionel Messi, his Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino isn't worried.

The three-time Ballon d'Or winner failed to get on the scoresheet in Barcelona's 1-0 win over Espanyol on Friday.

It means that for the first time in over two years the 26-year-old has gone four La Liga games without a goal however he did find the net in Champions League action against AC Milan during that time.

But the Barcelona manager Martino who took over at the Nou Camp in the summer is not worried by his fellow countryman's perceived lack in form.

He said following the win over Espanyol: "Messi isn't desperate.

"He's set the bar so high that it seems when he doesn't score it's a problem."

Martino can take comfort that his side aren't missing Messi's usual constant supply of goals as they remain top of the table after 12 games unbeaten having drawn just once along the way, a run that also included victory in El Classico over their fiercest rivals Real Madrid- which also leaves 'Los Blancos' six points behind in third place of the table.

Similarly the man widely considered to be the best on the planet will probably not lose too much sleep over his barren run. If the stats tell you anything then it wont be long before he returns to goal-scoring ways; Messi has an astonishing 223 goals from 217 league starts for Barca.

The striker has the chance to continue scoring goals in Champions League against Milan this week before returning to La Liga action next week away at 18th placed Real Betis.
