Liverpool & Newcastle plot January bids for Marseille star
Marseille midfielder Andre Ayew wanted by Liverpool and Newcastle United
Liverpool will rival Newcastle United for the signature of Marseille midfielder Andre Ayew in January, according to the Sunday Mirror.
The Ghana international has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, following the French club's poor start to the 2013/14 campaign.
After a mediocre opening to the domestic season, Élie Baup's side have also lost all three of their Champions League games, leaving them rock bottom of Group F, and facing a fight to secure a place in the Europa League.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to offer Ayew an escape-route from Stade Vélodrome, and will meet the Ligue 1 outfit's £10million valuation of the African star.
The 23-year-old has less than 18 months remaining on his existing contract with Marseille, and will be available for a knockdown price next summer.
However, Liverpool and Newcastle hope to negotiate a deal for the player this coming January, in the hope that he can help in their respective pursuits of success in the second half of the current campaign.
Magpies manager Alan Pardew already has a large contingent of former Ligue 1 stars at St James' Park, and will use that as a bargaining tool to convince French-speaking Ayew to snub Anfield in favour of a move to Tyneside.
