Two Dutch players, Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben have been selected as candidates for the 2013 Golden Ball award.
The Holland internationals are on the shortlist of 23 names that FIFA and a French football magazine, “France Football” have nominated.
The former Arsenal player, Van Persie was top scorer in the Premier League last season and won the title with Manchester United, whilst Robben won the German title, the German Cup and the Champions League with Bayern Munich.
Next month, the shortlist will be reduced to three names, and the winner will be announced at a gala in Zurich on January 13 .
Van Persie joined Arsenal in 2004, and became the club captain in 2011 and subsequently joined arch-rivals Manchester United in 2012. He is the captain of the Dutch national team.
The current Bayern Munich player, Robben started plying his trade at FC Groningen, and later joined PSV Eindhoven, where he won the Netherlands' Young Player of the Year award and won an Eredivisie title simultaneously in 2004. He left PSV for Chelsea and later went to Real Madrid.
