Southampton striker Rickie Lambert insists that he has no concerns following criticism from some sections of the media.
The Liverpudlian had come under fire as his headed opener against Fulham last Saturday was only his second since the opening day of the season, as well as being his only goal from open play this campaign.
Lambert has reiterated that he remains unconcerned, providing the club continues to maintain the results it has been maintaining in recent weeks. Good results have seen the club rise to sixth position following this weekend's round of games.
Speaking to www.saintsfc.co.uk prior to the Stoke match, Lambert said: “I have seen some reports, but I’ve had that all my career and I know that as soon as one goal goes in, more seem to follow so I’m hoping that’s the case this time.
“I’m also hoping that people are seeing what kind of role I’m playing because it’s not the same role that I’ve been playing in the last few years, it’s changed. I’m working a lot harder defensively, and I hope people are seeing that, but I’m absolutely enjoying it."
While Lambert admitted he has a strong desire to score as many goals as possible for Southampton, he added that he feels no added pressure to score in the lead up to next summer's FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
“I want to score because I think that’s the best way to help the team and I am trying, but I’m hoping I can go on a bit of a run now.”
Lambert's Southampton headed to the Britannia Stadium, home of Stoke City, aiming to continue the run which had seen them lose just once and concede just three goals in the opening nine games of the current season.
They drew 1-1, a Jay Rodriguez header cancelling out an early goal from Stoke keeper Asmir Begovic - a freak effort that travelled 97-yards assisted by the wind and a stiff bounce into the Saints net.
