Chelsea midfielder Kevin de Bruyne accepts he may have to leave Stamford Bridge if he is not given more playing time by the time January comes around.

De Bruyne was dropped by manager Jose Mourinho earlier this season, despite being in the Portuguese's first few starting XIs.

"With Kevin, I didn’t like the match he played against Swindon and I didn’t like the way he was training," said Mourinho at the time.

The Belgium international has hardly been seen since and made only his fifth appearance of the season in the Capital One Cup win over Arsenal last week at Emirates Stadium.

De Bruyne denied he was planning on moving in January and did not want to end his Chelsea career so soon, but admitted he would have to be realistic if Mourinho continued to overlook him  for selection.

"To be honest, I haven't thought about it yet. I know something has to change. Sooner or later, I will have to play," he said.

De Bruyne's frustration will be centred around the World Cup in Brazil next summer and the threat to his place in the Belgium squad from not playing enough football.

There is much competition in a young, exciting squad and De Bruyne will be wary that a lack of first team football could jeopardise his place in it.

However, the 22-year-old is further frustrated by the fact that he feels he is in the best shape he has ever been in since moving to Chelsea.

"...What can I do at this moment besides training hard and keeping quiet?," he added.

"I feel really strong at this time - I think I have never been this fit before."
